Abstract

Since the Global Mapping Project (GMP) was born in 1992, the Ministry of Construction has been endeavoring to get international agreement on this project using every opportunity, such as international conferences, meetings on Global Mapping and bilateral cooperation programs. Owing to these activities, the International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM) was established in 1996, the activities on Global Mapping was reported at the nineteenth special session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGASS) in 1997, and a draft of the Global Mapping Action Program for completing the first version of the Global Map by the year 2000 was adopted ad the third meeting of ISCGM in 1997.
This paper describes the history of international activities on Global mapping, and relates how GMP has been accepted in the international community.
