Railway, Bus and Taxi

ROUTE1

From Tokyo Station, take "Yamanote" line to Akihabara Station, about 4 minutes. Transfer there to "Tsukuba Express" line to Kenkyu-gakuen. It will take about 50 minutes by a semi-rapid train.
From the train station, you can take a taxi to GSI, which costs about 1,000 yen.
※There is no local bus available from Kenkyu-gakuen Station.

ROUTE2

From Tokyo Station, take "Yamanote" line to Akihabara Station, about 4 minutes. Transfer there to "Tsukuba Express" line to Tsukuba. It will take about 45 minutes by a rapid train.
From the train station, you can take a local bus for "Kenchiku Kenkyujo" (=Building Research Institute) or "Shimotsuma-eki" (=Shimotsuma Station). Get off at "Kokudochiriin" (=GSI). About 10 minutes and 240 yen from Tsukuba Center bus terminal. You can also take a taxi from Tsukuba Station. It takes about 10 minutes and costs 1500 yen.

ROUTE3

From Tokyo Station, take "Yamanote" line to Ueno Station, about 8 minutes. Transfer there to "Joban" line to Hitachino Ushiku. It will take about 60 minutes by a local train.
From Hitachino Ushiku Station, take a bus at the east exit to Tsukuba Center bus terminal. It takes about 30 minutes and costs 520 yen.
From the bus terminal, you can take a local bus for "Kenchiku Kenkyujo" (=Building Research Institute) or "Shimotsuma-eki" (=Shimotsuma Station). Get off at "Kokudochiriin" (=GSI). About 10 minutes and 240 yen from Tsukuba Center bus terminal.
You can also take a taxi from Hitachino Ushiku Station. It takes about 30 minutes and costs 4500 yen.

Highway express bus and Local bus

From Tokyo Station

It takes about 70 minutes to Tsukuba Center bus terminal. The fare is 1,180 yen. Transfer at Tsukuba Center bus terminal to a local bus for "Kenchiku Kenkyujo" (=Building Research Institute) or "Shimotsuma -eki" (=Shimotsuma Station). Get off at "Kokudochiriin" (=GSI). About 10 minutes and 240 yen from Tsukuba Center bus terminal.

From Haneda (Tokyo International) Airport

It takes about 100 minutes to Tsukuba Center bus terminal. The fare is 1,850 yen. Transfer at Tsukuba Center bus terminal to a local bus for "Kenchiku Kenkyujo" (=Building Research Institute) or "Shimotsuma-eki" (=Shimotsuma Station). Get off at "Kokudochiriin" (=GSI). About 10 minutes and 240 yen from Tsukuba Center bus terminal.

From Ibaraki Airport

It takes about 60 minutes to Tsukuba Center bus terminal. The fare is 1,030 yen. Transfer at Tsukuba Center bus terminal to a local bus for "Kenchiku Kenkyujo" (=Building Research Institute) or "Shimotsuma-eki" (=Shimotsuma Station). Get off at "Kokudochiriin" (=GSI). About 10 minutes and 240 yen from Tsukuba Center bus terminal.

Limousine bus and Local bus

From Narita International Airport

Take an airport bus called "Airport Liner - NATT'S" bound for Tsuchiura Station and get off at Tsukuba Center bus terminal. It takes about 100 minutes and the fare is 2,600 yen. Then transfer to a local bus for "Kenchiku Kenkyujo" (=Building Research Institute) or "Shimotsuma-eki" (=Shimotsuma Station). About 10 minutes and 240 yen from Tsukuba Center bus terminal.
