Abstract

This study employed an airborne laser scanner to detect changes in buildings by acquiring digital surface model (DSM) data sets of urban areas. The spatial accuracy of the DSM data acquired by the airborne laser scanner is assessed in a test area. A simple comparison between DSM data sets acquired at different times successfully detected building changes without omission errors. In addition, a CCD array image simultaneously acquired with the DSM data was automatically orthorectified with the DSM data and appeared to make revision of the building database more efficient.
