Volcanic Base Map

The GSI creates Volcanic Base Map based on the Volcanic Eruption Prediction Plan proposed by the Committee on Volcano, Subdivision on Geodesy and Geophysics, Council for Science and Technology. These maps are used as basic materials for predicting volcanic eruptions, designing disaster prevention measures, formulating policies for co-existing with volcanoes, and other uses.

The Volcanic Base Maps, which depict presently active volcanoes, and those that are expected to become active in the future, are made in the scale of 1:2,500 to 1:10,000. Because they also show detailed topographic and planimetric features, and other pertinent information, they can be used not only to planning to prevent eruption disasters and formulating emergency measures, but they may also have potential as fundamental materials for such fields as volcano research and eruption prediction.
